Show worked answer
Answer: −6
Add the equations: 6x=−36.
Therefore x=−6.
Example 2
Solve 4x+3y=5 and 4x−3y=3. Find x+y.
Show worked answer
Answer: 19
Add the equations to find x=16;
subtract them to find y=3.
Hence x+y=19.
