Compare solid objects and explain how their features suit different uses.
Example 1
A model needs 4 identical pointed roofs. Altogether they must have 4 circular bases and 4 points. Which object and reason fit?
Show worked answer
Answer: Cones: each has one flat circular base and one point
- There are 4 identical pieces; compare the required total with the features of one piece.
- 44=1 circular base and 1 point per roof; a cone has those features.

A collection has 11 identical solids. Altogether they have 22 flat circular faces and 11 curved surfaces. Which solid is used?
Show worked answer
Answer: cylinder
