YEAR 11 · FUNCTIONS AND STRAIGHT-LINE GRAPHS

Topic review.

Check the key ideas, then put them together independently.

QUICK RECAP

Connect the ideas

A function assigns one output to each permitted input. State the input restrictions before describing its range.

For a line y=mx+c, m describes the change in y for a one-unit increase in x; c is the value at x=0.

Find an intersection by satisfying both equations, and check the result in both.

Inverse proportion and circles are not straight-line models; identify their restrictions and geometric features.

Practice tests

Complete each paper and show your working.

  1. Functions and straight-line graphs — Practice test 1

    10 questions · 46 marks · 70 minutes · Scientific calculator

A balanced paper on rules, graphs, linear geometry and practical models. Give exact values unless a question asks otherwise.

  2. Functions and straight-line graphs — Practice test 2

    10 questions · 42 marks · 70 minutes · Scientific calculator

Use symbolic rules, intercepts and contextual restrictions. Explanations matter as well as calculations.

  3. Functions and straight-line graphs — Practice test 3

    10 questions · 43 marks · 70 minutes · Scientific calculator

Use functions to connect algebra with measurement and practical restrictions. Justify choices of models.

  4. Functions and straight-line graphs — Practice test 4

    10 questions · 44 marks · 70 minutes · Scientific calculator

A reasoning paper with parameter restrictions, a shifted reciprocal rule and geometric modelling.

  5. Functions and straight-line graphs — Practice test 5

    10 questions · 50 marks · 75 minutes · Scientific calculator

A more demanding synthesis paper: justify restrictions, evaluate models and combine coordinate methods.
